A Compact SUV with Attitude

While China’s EV market is saturated with practical, affordable models like the BYD Yuan PLUS, the Fangchengbao Tai 3 takes a different approach. This compact electric SUV embraces rugged styling and a fun-loving character, offering an alternative for buyers who want more than just efficiency—all at a starting price of under $17,000.

At 4.6 meters long, the Tai 3 mimics the brawny stance of a larger off- roader with exaggerated plastic cladding, faux vents, and a boxy silhouette. Its compact dimensions give it a toy-like charm, but clever storage solutions—like a 151-liter front trunk and an optional roof-mounted drone base—add real-world practicality.

Performance: Surprisingly Quick for a Budget EV

The Tai 3 offers two powertrain options: a single-motor version (160 kW, 7.9s 0-100 km/h) and a dual-motor setup (310 kW, 4.9s 0-100 km/h). Despite its playful looks, it delivers a smooth and composed ride, with well-tuned suspension and double-pane glass keeping cabin noise low. Off-road capability is decent, with 23 cm of ground clearance and approach/departure angles that outclass typical city SUVs.

Tech & Interior: Affordable but Well-Equipped

Inside, the Tai 3 mixes cost-saving materials (like faux leather seats) with premium features, including an available 15.6-inch touchscreen and a Devialet sound system. Standard driver-assistance tech, such as BYD’s DiPilot 100 with highway navigation aids, is impressive for the price.

The top-tier Drone Edition adds a roof-mounted drone base for $4,200-a unique but pricey option that limits sunroof functionality. While novel, it’s more of a niche feature than a must-have.

Conclusion: Fun Meets Function

The Fangchengbao Tai 3 proves that budget EVs don’t have to be dull. With its bold styling, peppy performance, and clever features, it’s a compelling choice for buyers seeking an electric SUV with personality—even if the drone option is more of a conversation starter than a practical upgrade.
